Brightspace (TDA)

Automate TRECA Digital Academy's Brightspace (tda.brightspace.com) with the Revolt userscript

Brightspace (TRECA Digital Academy)

Revolt supports TRECA Digital Academy (TDA) on Brightspace at tda.brightspace.com. It answers Brightspace quizzes, works through the Möbius, Edpuzzle and Classkick assignments your teachers embed in TDA, turns in dropbox assignments, and opens the next topic when the current one is complete.

Only TRECA Digital Academy's Brightspace is supported. Other schools' Brightspace sites aren't supported yet. Ask in our Discord if you want yours added.

Brightspace uses the same Revolt license key or subscription as every other platform. There is nothing extra to buy.

Quick Start

Install Revolt

Install Tampermonkey and the Revolt script. Full steps are on the Installation page and the Brightspace install tutorial.

Sign in to TDA

Log into tda.brightspace.com like you normally do. Revolt detects Brightspace and shows the Revolt panel.

Activate

Enter your license key, or link your Brightspace account if you have a Revolt subscription. Revolt asks once.

Enable features

Turn on Auto Advance, Auto Exam, Auto Instructions, and Auto Project from the sidebar. That combination takes the quizzes, plays the lessons and Edpuzzle videos, turns in dropbox work, and moves you to the next topic.

Supported Features

FeatureOn BrightspaceNotes
Auto Advance✓Picks a course, then opens the next topic once Brightspace marks the current one complete
Auto Exam✓Brightspace quizzes (multiple choice, select all that apply, written responses), plus Möbius and Classkick
Auto Instructions✓Plays lesson videos, marks simple pages complete, and runs Edpuzzle assignments
Auto Project✓Dropbox assignments: fillable PDF worksheets, written assignments, and finished Classkick work
Progress Bar✓How far you are through the course and the current unit
Mute Audio✓Mutes lesson and Edpuzzle videos
Video Speed✗Videos play at the speed your teacher set

Answer and submit delays from Advanced Controls and Work Hours apply on Brightspace too. Features that do not apply on Brightspace are hidden from the sidebar automatically.

Auto Advance

Auto Advance never completes anything itself. It waits until Brightspace marks the current topic complete, then opens the next one. Turn it on with Auto Exam, Auto Instructions and Auto Project so the topics actually get done.

  • Course picker: Revolt asks which course to run (Ready when you are) and lists your active courses with their progress. Pick one and it opens that course's next unfinished topic.
  • Next topic: once Brightspace marks a topic complete, Revolt shows "Done here. Opening the next topic…" and moves on.
  • Topics that need you: when a topic is waiting on something, Auto Advance stops and says why, for example Quiz to take, Assignment to submit, Möbius assignment, Edpuzzle video, Classkick exam, Work in another tool, or Needs Mark as Complete. The message names the feature that can handle it, if there is one.
  • Skip for now: for a topic Revolt can't finish (work in another tool, for example), it asks once whether to Wait here or Skip for now. Skipping moves on to the next topic; come back to the skipped one yourself.

When the course is done, Revolt shows All caught up! Every released topic is complete. If you skipped topics, it says "Nothing left to open: finish the topics you skipped, or check back when more is released."

The Progress Bar shows your progress through the course and the current unit, using the same numbers Brightspace counts toward completion. Totals can grow as your teacher releases more content.

Auto Exam (Brightspace Quizzes)

Auto Exam answers Brightspace quizzes:

  • Multiple choice
  • Select all that apply
  • Written responses

It answers one question at a time using your Quiz Answer Delay, waits for Brightspace to save every answer, then submits the quiz after your Quiz Submit Delay (both in Advanced Controls). When it finishes, the widget shows Quiz submitted.

  • Started quizzes: a quiz you already started is picked up where you left off.
  • No retakes: a quiz you already submitted is left alone ("Already submitted. Auto Exam will not retake it."). Retakes are yours.
  • Timed or password-protected quizzes: Revolt shows Take this quiz yourself and leaves them to you.
  • Questions about you: questions that ask about you (like interest surveys) are left for you. Revolt answers the rest, does not submit, and shows how many questions need you.

Möbius, Edpuzzle and Classkick

TDA embeds work from other tools inside Brightspace topics. Revolt handles three of them, as long as you open them inside TDA.

Möbius (Auto Exam)

Auto Exam answers Möbius math assignments, such as practice and checkpoints. It checks each answer with Möbius's How Did I Do? before moving on, and presses Submit Assignment only after every answer has been checked.

If an answer can't be found or keeps coming back wrong, Revolt stops on that question and shows Question N needs you. Answer it, then turn Auto Exam back on.

Some Möbius activities open in a new window. Revolt opens those in a new tab next to your course and works there.

Edpuzzle (Auto Instructions)

Auto Instructions plays Edpuzzle videos, answers their multiple-choice questions as the video reaches them, and turns the video in at the end. Videos play at the speed your teacher set.

Open-ended Edpuzzle questions are left for you: Revolt shows This question needs you, and carries on after you type your answer.

Classkick (Auto Exam, then Auto Project)

Auto Exam joins the Classkick activity with your Brightspace name, reads the slides, and fills them in. It then saves the finished work, and Auto Project turns it in on the matching dropbox assignment. Turn on both features for Classkick.

Auto Instructions (Lesson Pages)

  • Videos on lesson pages play through at the speed your teacher set. Turn on Mute Audio to mute them.
  • Simple pages that need Mark as Complete are marked complete after any video on them has finished and a short reading wait (Instructions Next Frame Delay in Advanced Controls, never under 10 seconds).
  • Pages that only need viewing are completed by Brightspace when you open them, so Auto Advance just moves on.

A page with work in another tool, or something to fill in, is not marked complete. Revolt shows Work in another tool or Something to fill in so you can do it yourself.

Auto Project (Dropbox Assignments)

Auto Project handles Brightspace dropbox assignments:

  1. Fillable PDF worksheets are filled in
  2. Written assignments are written from their instructions
  3. Finished Classkick work from Auto Exam is turned in on the matching dropbox

Revolt uploads the file, waits your Project Submit Delay from Advanced Controls (a countdown shows "Submitting your file in…"), submits, and then checks that Brightspace actually received it: Submitted! Brightspace has your file.

It never resubmits. An assignment that already has a submission is left alone ("Already submitted. Nothing to do here.").

Assignments that need an outside tool, such as a Google Doc, are left for you with Do this one yourself.

What Revolt Leaves to You

  • Timed or password-protected quizzes
  • Quiz retakes
  • Questions about yourself, like interest surveys
  • Open-ended Edpuzzle questions
  • Anything outside TDA: Google Docs and Slides, Clever, Navigate360, and discussions

Revolt stops and tells you when a topic needs you, then picks back up once it's done.

Limits

  • Only TRECA Digital Academy's Brightspace (tda.brightspace.com) is supported. Other schools' Brightspace sites are not supported yet.
  • Brightspace is untested on phones. Use a computer.
  • Videos are never sped up. They play at the speed your teacher set.
  • Cloud Completion does not support Brightspace yet. Run Revolt yourself in your browser.

Account Linking

Linking works the same as on other platforms. The linked account is your TDA Brightspace student account: Revolt reads it from the Brightspace session you're signed in to, never your password. One key links to one Brightspace account.

  1. Sign in at tda.brightspace.com with Revolt active
  2. Click Login with Account (subscription) or enter a license key
  3. Confirm on revolt.ly/link

Linked Brightspace accounts appear in your Dashboard with a Brightspace label. Full walkthrough: Link Your Account.

Troubleshooting

"No Session Found"

"Could not verify your Brightspace session." Revolt couldn't read your TDA sign-in. Log into tda.brightspace.com, then refresh the page.

"Sign in to Brightspace" or "You were signed out"

Brightspace signed you out. Sign in again and Auto Advance picks up where it left off.

"Paused. Open your course content to keep going."

Auto Advance doesn't navigate away from pages like grades or discussions. Open your course content (or a topic) and it continues.

"Take this quiz yourself"

The quiz is timed or needs a password, so Auto Exam leaves it to you. Auto Advance moves on once you submit it.

"N questions need you"

Some questions ask about you, are a kind Auto Exam can't answer yet, or Auto Exam couldn't get answers for them. Revolt answered the rest and did not submit. Answer the remaining questions and submit the quiz yourself.

"Answers are not saving"

Brightspace didn't confirm the saved answers. Check your connection, then press Save All Responses and submit the quiz yourself.

"Needs Mark as Complete" or "Not marked complete"

The page needs Mark as Complete. Turn on Auto Instructions, or press Mark as Complete yourself.

"Finish ... first"

Shown by Auto Project on a Classkick dropbox. Open the Classkick activity with Auto Exam on so it saves your work, then come back to the dropbox.

"Could Not Load Courses" or "No Active Courses"

The course picker couldn't list your courses. Sign in to Brightspace again and retry. "No Active Courses" means your account has no active Brightspace courses.

More fixes are on the Troubleshooting page.

Tips

  • The full stack on Brightspace is Auto Advance + Auto Exam + Auto Instructions + Auto Project
  • For Classkick, keep both Auto Exam and Auto Project on
  • One Revolt key covers Brightspace, FLVS, Subject, Edmentum, Edgenuity, and EdgeX
